Ama Dablam

High Altitude Mountaineering

Ama Dablam, Grandmother's Jewel Purse, located in the shadow of Mt. Everest, is one of the world's most majestic peaks. This mountain dominates the view of the entire approach to Mt. Everest. Rising to a height of 22,343 feet (6,812 meters), Ama Dablam is the crown jewel of the Khumbu Himal. Located above the Thangboche Monastery, it stands alone among the great peaks of the region - Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu.

This climb of Ama Dablam's Southwest Ridge, although technical, is not difficult. The challenge of such an exciting route is being able to move efficiently in small parties. The winter season was chosen to allow us to have the route virtually to ourselves. Even though the days are shorter and the temperatures colder than other seasons, this time of year usually produces blue sky days thus making our ascent spectacular.

Time November-December
Duration 31 days
Land Cost: TBD
